Salary: $4987 to $6027 monthly

NOTE: Employees who obtain and maintain Latent Print Examiner certification through the International Association for Identification (IAI) will receive 5% additional salary.

Duties: Latent Print Examiners evaluate latent prints to determine quality and identity; prepare and enter latent prints into an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS); compare known prints of suspects with latent prints to make positive identification; prepare photographs and other material for demonstration of evidence in court; serve as an expert in court on all phases of latent print identification; classify fingerprints; and maintain logs and records of examinations performed.

Requirements: Any combination of full or part-time work which equals one year of full-time experience in the comparison and identification of latent prints. Qualifying experience must include testifying in court as an expert witness on all phases of friction ridge identification. NOTE: Applicants must submit a letter of court acceptance as a qualified expert in latent print identification. A letter from a Municipal or higher Court Judge or District Attorney will be accepted as verification of court acceptance as an expert witness.

Although not required, the following qualifications are desirable: 1) Experience in the classification and searching of inked fingerprints in an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS); 2) Certification through the International Association for Identification (IAI); and 3) College level courses in Physical Science, Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Criminalistics or a related field.

A valid California Class C Driver's License is required at time of hire.

ELIGIBLE LIST: Candidates who are successful in the screening process described above will be placed on a one category eligible list which will be used to fill position vacancies during the next two years. For each vacancy, candidates with the most appropriate qualifications will be contacted by the hiring department for an interview.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Any employment offer is conditional pending the results of all pre-employment screening processes required for the job, which may include, but are not limited to the following: confirmation of citizenship/legal right to work in the United States; completion of a pre-employment medical review/exam (which may include drug/alcohol testing); reference checks; background investigation; polygraph examination; and a fingerprint check. The fingerprints will be submitted to the California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a conviction record report. All of these processes must be successfully completed before employment begins.
