Evidence Custodian / Fingerprint Technician

Duties: Receives, stores, logs, retrieves, transports, releases, and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous evidence and non-evidential property, while ensuring the security and preserving the chain-of-custody, in accordance with federal and state laws and department procedures.
Requirements: Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
1. Bachelor's Degree in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Criminalistics, or related field.2. Three (3) years experience as a certified police officer or technical experience in law enforcement support work; knowledge of Texas Rules of Criminal Procedure and Texas Criminal Court System.
3. Valid Texas Class A, B, or C drivers license, no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI on driving record, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
4. Proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and software applications to include Windows, word processing, spreadsheet, and database.
5. Written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels, both inside and outside of DART.
6. Analytical skills to find solutions to professional, technical, and administrative problems.
7. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and maintain positive relationships with all levels, both inside and outside of DART.
8. Ability to demonstrate a fiduciary obligation to section, division, department, and DART in handling materials and information of a confidential nature.
9. Pass DOT physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART revenue vehicles.
10. Must be able to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays and weekends.
11. Successful completion of selection process including but not limited to polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, and background investigation.
