The Forensic Services Group is the state's primary forensic science program and service provider for criminal justice. The FSG comprises nine work groups, whose functions are performed in an integrated lab system of nine lab facilities through the Commonwealth. The Lab Director/Chief Science Officer will also play a leadership role in coordinating other providers of forensic science in the Commonwealth, including the Boston Police Crime Lab, the Department of Public Health, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. In addition, the Lab Director collaborates with the Undersecretary for Forensic Science and Technology and serves as the key advisor and contributor to the Forensic Science Advisory Board's efforts to guide the state's forensic sciences program.

Requirements: The Commonwealth seeks an individual with a consultative and accessible leadership style, outstanding written and oral communication skills, integrity, and experience in an administrative leadership position requiring strategic planning, operations, and budgeting. S/he will have a record of success in managing a scientific enterprise to the highest quality standards and outcomes.

The successful candidate will have a strong public presence, the capacity to inspire staff, and demonstrated success in achieving results in a fast-paced and committed workplace. S/he will have expertise in building alliances, consensus-building, and managing key stakeholders for a unified mission.

Applicants must possess a minimum of a Master's Degree in a natural or physical science discipline; a Ph.D. in an appropriate academic discipline is preferred. Applicants must have a total of at least 10 years of professional or technical experience in chemistry, biology, histology, microbiology, or medical laboratory technology, the major duties of which include laboratory analysis and the interpretation of laboratory results. Considerable knowledge and experience in the fields of forensic chemistry and biology and all related forensic science disciplines is preferred.
