Crime Scene Manager
Gwinnett County, GA Department of Police Services
Salary: $64,130 Annual ($30.83 Hourly)

Duties: This class is responsible for managing the crime scene unit including developing policies, procedures, approving expenditures, training programs, special operations in labs, and reviewing complex crime scene reports. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
- Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Manages the processing of crime scenes, which includes evidence collection, analysis, and storage. Administer effective operations through developing and implementing procedural policies.
- Oversees the operations of the photo and forensic lab and the fingerprinting process to ensure state guidelines are maintained. Manages the retention and release of criminal arrest photos and case film negatives.
- Manages the department budget and inventory and assists in developing future budgets.
- Prepares monthly statistical reports detailing the activities of the crime scene unit. Research equipment and technology improvements for the crime scene unit.
- Coordinates activities with other local, state, and federal agencies and oversees the release of crime scene evidence and reports.
- Prepares charts and diagrams and testifies in court when required.
- Oversees Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) Operations to ensure compliance with GBI guidelines.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Requirements: Education/Experience and Licensure Requirements (or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job)
- Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science or a related field with five years experience as a crime scene supervisor; OR nine years of specialized technical training in crime scene and/or law enforcement.
- P.O.S.T. certification as an Identification Technician.
- Valid Driver's License from state of residency (will require GA Drivers License if employed); Must be 21 years of age and have US citizenship.
- This position may require: 24 hour on call assignment, overtime, or working weekends, holidays, 10-hour, 12-hour, and rotating shifts.
- MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE A COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND INVETIGATION INCLUDING CRIMINAL, DRIVING, CREDIT, EMPLOYMENT, CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE USE AND MILITARY HISTORY CHECK.

Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, travel, blood, bodily fluids, a variety of insects and excessive stress.
