Forensic Scientist I (Forensic Biology/DNA)

Salary: $47,148.00 - $75,204.00 Annually

Duties: The Denver Police Department Crime Laboratory currently has two positions for Forensic Scientist I within the Forensic Biology/DNA Unit.

These employment positions are part of a federal/state funded grant program and will be classified as limited employees. Employment is conditioned upon the Denver Police Department's participation in funding from the National Institute of Justice 2009 DNA Backlog Reduction Grant Program and 2009 Solving Cold Cases with DNA program, and is contingent upon the continued receipt of this ancillary funding. The grant funding of these positions is projected to end in December 2011 but could end sooner.

This position is open only to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position performs all aspects of criminal casework on evidentiary materials, including evaluation and preparation of evidence, DNA training/analysis, interpretation of analytical results, preparation of case reports, active participation and commitment to improving the laboratory ISO/IEC 17025 quality assurance/quality control program and expert testimony and support to District Attorneys. Will serve as second reader/peer review for forensic biology/DNA casework and laboratory validation work.

Requirements: Requires a Baccalaureate Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or a directly related natural science which must have included coursework in biochemistry, genetics, molecular/cell biology and statistics. A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements.
