Sorenson Forensics, LLC is a leading provider of casework and validation services for federal, state and local crime laboratories and Officers of the Court in individual criminal cases. We are currently seeking a serologist to work at our Salt Lake City, UT forensic laboratory. This position will be responsible for performing certain aspects of forensic DNA analysis procedures on criminal casework samples with emphasis on Serological testing and screening of evidentiary samples. This is real life CSI that involves extracting DNA samples from evidence.

This position requires excellent attention to detail, good communication skills, the ability to troubleshoot problems using technical and creative solutions, and the ability to multitask and adapt to change rapidly. A thorough background check and genotype profile is required prior to handling criminal evidence. The primary duties of this position are as follows:
  • Forensic Serology
  • Generation of Laboratory Reports
  • Laboratory QA / QC
  • Chain of Custody
  • DNA Extraction
  • DNA Quantitation


  • College course work covering aspects of biology (biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, statistics and/or population genetics coursework is preferred) -please include courses taken.
  • 6 months of relevant laboratory experience is preferred. A qualifying test may be given before participating in forensic serology responsibilities.
  • Experience utilizing quantitative polymerase reaction (qPCR) with the Promega Plexor┬« HY System (or similar) and Chelex┬« DNA extraction technique is preferred.
