The Suffolk County (NY) Crime Laboratory is seeking a qualified Forensic Scientist to fill a position in the Biological Sciences Section.

Duties:

The Forensic Scientist will be responsible for analyzing physical evidence, analyzing body fluid stains from the evidence and performing DNA-STR analysis on the samples. In addition, the duties include testimony as an expert witness at criminal trials.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, Forensic Science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university;
  • Coursework required by the Quality Assurance Standards For Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories (Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Statistics);
  • At least two years of Forensic Biology casework experience including DNA-STR analysis.
  • A Master of Science Degree in Biology, Forensic Science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of casework experience.
