Evidence Technician

Salary: $29,266.00 Annually

This class is responsible for accepting, releasing, processing, cataloging, securing and maintaining evidence until needed for court, investigations, or testing.

  • Receives and stores evidence in appropriate storage location Follows all current policies and procedures to ensure proper chain of custody is maintained.
  • Logs, tracks, and completes appropriate paperwork regarding evidence storage. Responsible for entering information into records management system (RMS).
  • Assists department personnel and other customers by answering phones, researching basic information, and preparing files.
  • Gathers information through GCIC/NCIC and other systems.
  • Notifies evidence owner if items can be released or prepares items to be destroyed and completes appropriate paperwork.
  • Preparation, delivery and the return of property and evidence from the crime lab and other locations following established chain of custody procedures.
  • Prepares evidence for auction, processes paperwork, and deposits money after auction is completed and enters activity status information into chain of custody and RMS.
  • Testify in court as to the integrity, preservation, transportation and chain of custody of property and evidence.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.


  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D.;
  • One year of customer service experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above;
  • GCIC/NCIC certification within one year.

  • This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
