Crime Scene Supervisor

Duties:

Responsible for oversight of day to day operations of unit; maintains high quality of performance from subordinates; maintains good order and a pleasant work environment; coordinates the assignment and training of new personnel; approves all overtime and time off of assigned employees; assists management in enhancing the overall effectiveness of the unit; maintains paperwork on all subordinates; photographs and processes crime scene for fingerprints and other evidence; photographs physiological evidence at autopsies; submits evidence to the property division and regional crime lab following detailed procedures; processes articles brought to the station for identification purposes; makes chemicals and processes photographs; maintains daily report of activities; fingerprints citizens, police, fire and liquor applicants; classifies and files fingerprint cards; lifts and identifies latent prints; presents testimony in court as expert witness for fingerprint identification and crime scene investigation; maintains identification vehicle and photographic equipment. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of digital photography required.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge and understanding of the F.B.I. fingerprint manual, Texas Penal Code, police general orders, rules and regulations, and Texas Code of Criminal Procedures; ability to lift latent fingerprints; ability to classify finger print cards; ability to read and write; ability to make mathematical computations; ability to successfully complete highly technical training courses; ability to operate camera and run basic computer programs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Physical Requirements: Essential:
  • Constantly sees and hears; vision must be correctable to 20/20; frequently sits, stands, walks, bends, drives vehicle, operates camera and computer, kneels, crouches, squats, stoops, climbs, and lifts and carries objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; infrequently pushes, pulls and drags objects weighing over 50 lbs.
Education/Experience:
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position; college courses and/or experience in criminology, criminal procedure or law enforcement and identification bureau/criminal investigation are highly preferred.
Other:
  • Subject to same background investigation as police officer; including polygraph exam and psychological exam. Must posses a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Applicant selected for hire shall be subject to polygraph, criminal history background check, and a drug/alcohol screen test.
Working Conditions:
  • May be subject to bodily harm during crime scene investigations; also subject to coming in contact with blood and other body fluids. Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather; often exposed to chemical irritants, dirt, dust, fumes, and odors; frequently exposed to the sight of death and violent crime/accident scenes; subject to 24 hour call-out; must be available to work any shift.

The City may consider all related education and/or experience in determining the applicant's minimum qualifications and starting salary.
