  • Examining latent print impressions recovered from crime scenes and evidence to criminal suspects;
  • Comparison and Evaluation of latent impressions, using the ACE-V methodology; electronic capture and documentation of latent prints to include digital enhancement techniques.
  • This position will also utilize computerized forensic databases such as North Carolina State AFIS, FBI NGIAFIS and SPEX systems.
  • The individual in this position will prepare detailed written reports as well as supply expert testimony in both State and Federal Courts.
  • The employee mentors and trains newer examiners and others on latent print matters and on occasion will be required to respond to major call outs to assist Crime Scene Investigators and other law enforcement agencies.
  • To remain in this position, an IAI Latent Print Examiner Certification will be required within 18 months of eligibility.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree with 1-3 years of experience in latent print comparison and identification casework
  • Or
  • Associates Degree with 5-7 years of experience in latent print comparison and identification casework
  • Or
  • High School Diploma/GED with 10+ years of experience in latent print comparison and identification casework
  • Experience in the operation of Finger or Palm Print databases AFIS systems
  • Valid NC Driver License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a full time Latent Print Examiner in a ISO/IEC 17020 or 17025 accredited laboratory
  • A certified Latent Print Examiner through the International Association for Identification (IAI)
  • Knowledge and use of a SPEX PrintQuest System, FBI-IAFIS or a State AFIS system
