Under the direction of Property & Evidence Sergeant: intake and maintain property and determine property and case dispositions; maintain photo documentation of crime scenes, evidence and property received by the department.

  • Receive, maintain, catalog store and dispose of property and evidence as required by law. Prepare evidence for presentation in court and appear when necessary.
  • Responsible for the timely processing of evidence following required contemporary standards.
  • Prepare and present training on various aspects of crime scene and evidence processes.
  • Maintain and prepare electronic evidence using a variety of software applications.
  • Respond on occasion to crime scenes to collect, catalog and log evidence.
  • Photograph evidence at Property & Evidence or at off-site storage.
  • General filing, typing and record-keeping, computer data entry and preparation of written reports as necessary.
  • Providing case disposition research via CCIC/NCIC and other data sources.
  • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the City.
  • Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to City property.
  • Responsible for knowing and complying with all City and department policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.


  • Must be over 21 years of age, and have a stable previous work history. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Have courteous and effective communication skills. Basic computer skills with ability to learn different systems quickly, Ability to stand, kneel, and bend frequently and to work in unpleasant conditions and perform physical tasks in awkward or confining work space. Strength needed to lift objects on a daily basis. Ability to maintain balance and to work from ladders and heights.Ability to perform work requiring accuracy and which carries high liability. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. Possess a valid Colorado Driver's License and acceptable motor vehicle record; and have acceptable background information, including criminal history.Must be willing to submit to security check and pass truth verification interview, background and drug screen prior to hire.
  • Demonstrated personal and professional honesty, integrity, good judgment as shown in applicant's criminal history, background and motor vehicle record, and use of drugs and alcohol. Applicants who use, possess, distribute or grow marijuana or medical marijuana, and/or own, operate, or have any interest in a marijuana dispensary will be disqualified. Preference will be given to applicants who have no history of use, sale or possession of illegal substances. Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) or polygraph used for verification of applicant information. The following will disqualify any applicant from consideration:
    • Any felony conviction.
    • Any commission of a felony in the previous 5 years, including felonious drug use or possession.
    • Any commission of a non-traffic related misdemeanor within the previous 36 months.
    • Any convictions and/or protective order(s) issued for domestic violence offenses which would preclude possession of a firearm.
    • The use, sale, possession, or transfer of marijuana or marijuana concentrate, including medical marijuana, in the previous 3 years. (There will be zero tolerance for regular marijuana use or use of any other controlled substance in previous 36 months).
    • Eight points or three moving violation convictions, or a suspended, restricted, or revoked license in the previous 24 months.
    • Any false or untrue statements or material omissions in the application and related paperwork or during the selection process.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS – In addition to the required minimum qualifications:
  • Crime scene and property and evidence processing experience.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Experience downloading, copying and archiving digital media.
  • Experience with Tiburon Records Management System Property Room module, or other property and evidence software.
