This position serve as the Deputy Forensic Toxicologist of the Toxicology Bureau at the Scientific Laboratory Division. Incumbent is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operation of the Drug Screening and Drug Confirmation section. This position may prepare Discovery Orders, assist in responding to subpoena duces tecum requests, and provide expert testimony in court proceedings. This position will develop and validate new testing procedures and implement new analytical technologies [e.g. Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), Orbitrap, and Gas Chromatography (GC-MS)] for the Toxicology Bureau.


Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling fourteen (14) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include management and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.
Employment Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training is required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in a fully functional laboratory containing biological, chemical, physical, and radiological hazards. Incumbent will be required to use all applicable safety equipment provided by the employer and follow all safety precautions specified by the employer. There will be extended periods of standing, repetitive trunk/arm/hand/neck movements with computer usage or assay/methodologies utilized. Work involves using high voltage electronic instrumentation, and high pressure gas cylinders. Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs. In-State and Out-of-State travel with the occasional overnight stay is required.
