Forensic Latent Examiner

Salary: $20.88 - $28.19 per hour

The Forensic Latent Examiner links crime scene evidence to suspects by individualizing friction ridge impressions and other impressions recovered from crime scenes.

  • Uses scientific methodology, links the evidence, records the results and testifies to those results in court.
  • Operates the automated fingerprinting identification system.
  • Plots ridge characteristics within the latent to create data that can be matched or compared with known inked print data in the computer.
  • Maintains scientific and laboratory standards.


Minimum Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Natural/Forensic Science, or related field and two years of experience in latent examinations or equivalent.
  • International Association for Identification Latent Print Examiner certification required within 24 months of eligibility and/or employment.
  • A valid driver license and a "safe" driving record required.
Preferred Experience, Skills and Training (beyond the minimum requirements defined by the class)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Natural/Forensic Science, or related field; certification(s) as a Latent Print Examiner and/or Footwear Examiner through the International Association for Identification; employment experience in the analysis, identification, and/or comparison of fingerprints; current employment experience with a ISO accredited crime laboratory.
