Crime Scene Technician

Salary: $41,425.70 annually, including excellent benefits package

The City of Lawrenceville has an opening for a Crime Scene Technician. This position is responsible for performing technical duties in the processes of crime scenes; documenting crime scenes utilizing digital photography, video recording, sketches, measurements, and searching and processing evidence; completing a variety of reports and forms, making fingerprint comparisons, fingerprinting victims and suspects, testifying in court, analyzing drug samples, responding to after-hours calls, and other duties as needed.

  • Processes crime scenes; documents crime scenes utilizing digital photography, video recording, sketches, measurements, and searching and processing evidence.
  • Processes evidence for latent and patent fingerprints.
  • Processes biological evidence.
  • Packages and seals evidence.
  • Completes a variety of forms and reports.
  • Makes fingerprint comparisons.
  • Fingerprints victims and suspects.
  • Testifies in court.
  • Analyzes drug samples.
  • Responds to after-hours calls.
  • Attends required training.
  • Performs related duties.


  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or one to two years’ experience;
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Georgia Driver’s License;
  • Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia (POST).
  • Knowledge of fingerprint analysis principles.
  • Knowledge of criminal investigation principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of crime scene processing and evidence collection methods.
  • Knowledge of evidence collection, retention and disposal requirements.
  • Knowledge of drug identification principles.
  • Skill in the use of digital photography and videography principles.
  • Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, analyzing, decision making, and problem solving.
  • Skill in the use of firearms and other standard and specialized equipment.
  • Skill in public relations.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
