Duties:

  • Perform full working-level supervisory duties and is responsible for the operation of the Crime Laboratory of the department.
  • Supervise all operations of the Anchorage Police Department Crime Lab.
  • Supervise and participates in latent print examinations, analysis and comparisons.
  • Testify in court as an expert witness in fingerprint analysis, any other certified disciplines and crime lab operations.
  • Prepare laboratory's annual budget for input to Department administration.
  • Serve as unit's liaison with state, federal, and military law enforcement agencies with regard to laboratory cases.
  • Supervise automated fingerprint identification systems and files.
  • Maintain and approve lab personnel leave and work schedules in database.
  • Responsible for yearly management review of laboratory to meet international accreditation requirements.
  • Other related duties as assigned or required.
  • Utilize proficiency in evidence processing, photo & audio/video functions; knowledge of policies, practices and procedures and skills pertaining to latent fingerprint analysis, comparison and identifications; forensic lab operations; and management, supervisory and administrative techniques specific to law enforcement agencies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Physical Science, Business, Management or a related discipline and five (5) years of law enforcement experience in latent print examination.
  • OR
  • Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Physical Science, Business, Management or a related discipline and seven (7) years of law enforcement experience in latent print examination.
  • OR
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and nine (9) years of law enforcement experience in latent print examination.
  • Must possess a current Latent Print Examiner certification from the International Association for Identification (IAI), or equivalent at time of application.
  • Note: Current Latent Print Examiner certification from the International Association for Identification (IAI), or equivalent MUST be attached to the application in order to be considered.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid State of Alaska Driver's License by time of hire.
