Duties:

  • Inventories all evidence including cash brought into the Police Property Management Section, including classifying and storing according to types of evidence;
  • Supervises, trains, evaluates and coordinates the work of employees within the Property Management Section;
  • Prepares evidence for City, State, and Federal authorities and court procedures;
  • Supervises the intake, inventory, storage and release of confiscated, recovered stolen and found evidence;
  • Issues clothing and equipment to police personnel;
  • Ensures security within the Police Property Management Section;
  • Supervises the preparation of auctions, general property destruction, liquor and narcotics disposal and transfer of weapons;
  • Oversees vehicle impoundment programs;
  • Trains personnel in all policy relating to security of property and safety of the public and police personnel;
  • Administers budget of police Property Management Section;
  • Oversees ordering, receiving and supplying of supplies and equipment used in property management;
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas;
  • Responds to citizens questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
  • Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.

Requirements:

Acceptable Experience and Training:
  • Graduation from High School or possession of a GED; and
  • Two years experience in inventory control, property management, or a related field (i.e., accounting, record keeping, business administration, office management).
  • College credits may be substituted at the rate of one (1) year of college for one (1) year of experience. College transcripts must be submitted in order to receive credit for education.
Required Special Qualifications:
  • Candidates for positions in this class must pass a background investigation and post-employment offer polygraph examination, physical examination and drug screen;
  • Ability to type 30 words per minute.
