Crime Scene Investigation Division (Video Analysis Unit), Prince George County Police Department, Landover, Maryland

Salary: $39,880.00 - $82,973.00 Annually

This is an entry level to full performance professional position by which the incumbent performs video evidence collection, preservation, and documentation of items of evidence and prepares testimonies in the court system. When requested, this position will assist other divisions within the County with specialized video evidence collection services. The incumbent in this position is authorized to carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with established performance standards and is subject to reporting and justifying task outcomes through their chain of command.

The incumbent is responsible for investigating, collecting, analyzing and documenting video evidence; functions as a support investigative and assistance body when there is video evidence in criminal and/or internal investigations; completes all necessary training requirements to include in-service training, classes to maintain certifications, and other departmental trainings as required; assists the training academy in the training of Prince George's County recruit officers and Municipal police officers; attends court, both Circuit and District on and off duty, and testifies in criminal cases which he/she has investigated or assisted in the investigation; attends Civil Court as a result of an investigative effort; if necessary meet with State's Attorney for pretrial conferences; and accepts other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Law Enforcement, Business/Public Administration, one of the Social Sciences or related fields.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Three (3) years of experience which includes the following:
    • Knowledge of and experience with methods, and techniques of laboratory analysis and research work.
    • Knowledge of forensic photography and its methodology in capturing images of victims, suspects and evidence.
    • Knowledge of County, State and Federal laws, court decisions, and affecting the collection, preservation, testing and storage of evidence.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Upon selection, applicant:
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation and drug screen examination.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
  • May be assigned shift (day/evening/midnights) work to include weekends and holidays.
  • This is an essential position. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate. Essential employees are expected to report to work or remain at work when other County employees are granted administrative leave.
