The County of Chester is accepting applications for a Full-time Coroner's Investigator.

Include but not limited to: case evaluation to determine acceptance or declining of jurisdiction, responding to death scenes, and conducting an investigation including interviews, securing medical records and taking photographs. The investigator also arranges or provides transport of the deceased by the investigator or transporter.


  • Bachelor's Degree with major coursework emphasis in Administration of Justice/Criminal Justice or one of the Social Sciences. Minimum of one year of experience in the Criminal Justice field or related experience.
  • Weekday shifts 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and/or 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Will occasionally need to cover weeknight shifts 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and weekend shifts 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Need to have availability to cover shifts 24/7.
  • Must live in Chester County.
Qualification requirements:
  • Two years documented experience in a medical, pre-hospital or law enforcement setting. The position requires passing of the PA State Coroner's Training and the national certification (ABMDI) within 18 months of hiring.
  • Work environment may include exposure to hazardous or dangerous conditions including but not limited to waterways, roadways, harsh weather, unsafe structures, odors, body fluids and infectious diseases.
  • Experience or education in Medicolegal Death Investigation or certification by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) preferred.
  • Salary range available beginning at $34,632.78 annually based on education and experience.
  • Applicant must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Position requires criminal background and child abuse clearances.
