Property and Evidence Technician

Salary: $25.00 - $34.14

We are currently seeking skilled and qualified candidates for the position of Property and Evidence Technician. Technicians will be working both inside and outside at our Vehicle Impound Facility, and will receive, store, release, and provide security for impounded vehicles and related property. You’ll work along side uniformed officers, tow truck drivers, and other department members as well as interactive with the public daily.

This position is located at the Vehicle Impound Facility at 5160 York Street, Denver, CO 80126 and requires you to work outdoors, and to be subjected to crime scene material. The Vehicle Impound Facility is a 24hour/7day a week operation and requires flexibility in scheduling to include working evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Duties

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Identifies and verifies the make, model, color, vehicle identification number, and other details of the vehicle.
  • Escorts the tow truck driver to the location and space where the impounded vehicle will be stored.
  • Conducts routine checks of the grounds and monitors automated surveillance system for any unauthorized personnel in the lots.
  • Deals occasionally with disgruntled and emotionally upset citizens.
  • Identifies and verifies the make, model, color, vehicle identification number, and other details of the vehicle.
  • Performs data input and updating for the Colorado Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center computer systems.
  • Creates vehicle records in the internal software system Aries.
  • Preserves the chain of evidence/custody of vehicles being held for fingerprinting and/or criminal investigation for various law enforcement agencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Our Ideal Candidate will have:
  • Strong attention to detail and be task oriented
  • Computer Skills, to include typing and data entry
  • Use auditory and visual observation skills to assess tasks and provide information to tow truck drivers
  • Be Customer Service focused
Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:
  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience: One year of work experience in evidence handling or in the law enforcement field.
  • Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • Licensure: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
