Pathology Technician

Duties

Function Overview:
  1. Operates morgue/autopsy equipment: fork lift, autopsy stations, surgical tools, bone saws, and radiography equipment.
  2. Accepts bodies that are brought to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office for post mortem examination. Prepares pre-autopsy and post-autopsy paperwork, to include supplies needed for post mortem examination process.
  3. At the discretion of the Forensic Pathologist, collects evidence and prepares chain of evidence records.
  4. At the discretion of the Forensic Pathologist, assists with the post-mortem evisceration process. Upon completion, suturing and cleaning the remains in preparation for funeral home transport.
  5. Collects toxicology fluids and specimen samples for testing. Collects DNA standard and fingerprints.
  6. Maintains sanitary conditions during post mortem examinations and thoroughly cleans and sanitizes the morgue, autopsy facility, and autopsy equipment upon the completion of post mortem examinations.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Minimum Qualification (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. At least two years of experience working with the public. Proficient with basic PC functions.
Work Schedule:
  • Usual shift is 7a to 3p Monday through Friday and every other weekend. This equates to 80 hours per 2 week pay period.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequently stoops, kneels, balances, and crouches to perform job tasks
  • Frequently required to lift, push, or pull burdens of over 100 lbs, including bodies.
  • Frequently stands and walks in order to complete duties requiring mobility.
  • Constantly involved in auditory and oral interactions, interpersonally and through devices such as telephones.
  • Constantly uses eye, hand, and finger coordination to perform job tasks.
