To serve as a professional staff employee of the Indiana State Police whose primary responsibility is to classify, search, and identify known criminal and applicant fingerprints submitted by State, local, and national law enforcement agencies, using both the Henry Fingerprint Method and Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), in order to build and maintain a criminal history repository.

Duties

Job Duties
  • Learn to locate previous records by name and date of birth, using automated methods.
  • Learn to classify and compare new fingerprints with the fingerprints on file to assure the subject is the same.
  • Retrieve, identify and prepare SID’s.
  • Learn to take acceptable fingerprint impressions when required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Job Qualifications
  • Must be a high school graduate or possess the equivalent GED. Must be able to successfully complete a six (6) months to one (1) year training program. Must attend and receive a passing grade at the basic fingerprint school during the first year of employment. Must have the ability to classify and compare fingerprints using both the Henry and Automated systems.
  • Candidates may be upgraded to Fingerprint Classifier I ($1,448 bi-weekly / $37,348 annually) upon the successful completion of the fingerprint school AND one (1) year of employment.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation. Applicants are asked to submit a complete work history. All applicants are required to submit copies of their high school transcript or GED certificate, any college transcripts, technical certificates, and a military DD214 (if applicable).
