Latent Fingerprint Examiner

Salary: $39,456.00 Annually

The purpose of the position is to perform all aspects of identification of latent prints. Duties include analyzing and comparing latent prints, and issuing detailed reports on all findings. Employees in this classification perform technical and administrative work.

Duties

Examples of Duties
  • Analyzes latent prints for friction ridge detail and clarity using scientific procedures
  • Documents analysis of latent prints; prepares reports on conclusions; prepares detailed reports
  • Compares latent prints against known subjects
  • Prepares, enters, and compares latent fingerprints in automated fingerprint identification systems
  • Compares and maintains developed candidate lists in the automated fingerprint identification systems
  • Gives depositions and testifies in court as needed
  • Photographs latent prints
  • Safeguards evidence and maintains proper chain-of-custody
  • Duties will include communication, both oral and written, and proper operation of fingerprint systems and unit equipment
  • Ensures safety precautions and applicable standard operating procedures are followed

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Qualifications
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background/character investigation, medical examination, drug screening, and polygraph test; fingerprinting will be required.
  • Experience operating various office equipment (i.e., computer, multi-line phone, copier, fax, etc.).
