Salary: $52,980.22 - $87,417.35 per year
Greenville County is seeking a Criminalist to perform a variety of duties related to the analysis of many types of evidence recovered at crime scenes including, but not limited to, firearms and tool mark analysis.
Duties
This position is responsible for providing opinions and evaluations of evidence in an investigative capacity; preparing documentation reflecting the analysis and conclusions of the examiner; preparation of evidence to be used at trial; provide explanation of analysis procedures and conclusions in court as an expert witness; perform analysis of firearms, ammunition, ammunition components; conduct microscopic comparisons of questioned bullets and cartridge casings, examine various types of manufacturer, class and individual characteristics of tools and tool marks; examine captured material for any signs indicating make, model, modifications, place or origin, manufacturer of maker, and serial numbers; determine firearm operability; if safe to fire follow SOP's for the discharge of a firearm for the purposes of material recovery for comparison; perform administrative and technical reviews of reports and worksheets; and prepare written results suitable for intelligence or prosecutorial packages. The successful candidate will have good knowledge of acceptable practices and procedures for the analysis of evidence; working knowledge of the specialized machines, equipment and tools used in the collection and analysis of evidence; knowledge of LIMS and NIBIN systems; and knowledge of the demands and restraints that are imposed by the judicial system on the procedures and techniques used in forensic analysis.Requirements
