Fingerprint Lead Technician

This position performs advanced technical fingerprint identification and maintaining of criminal records consisting of classifying and comparing fingerprints of unknown persons and criminal suspects using appropriate methods. This position will process, maintain, and support criminal history record information provided to the Criminal Records Division by law enforcement agencies and courts throughout the State of Washington. This position must ensure accurate entry and update of information. The Fingerprint Lead position serves as a trainer for new technicians and ABIS Remote Site Users.

Duties

Responsibilities:
  • Identify ABIS system issues.
  • Provide entry-level training for internal employees.
  • Maintain Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) Archive database.
  • Utilize the ABIS fingerprint identification of electronically and manually submitted fingerprint transactions.
  • Utilize ABIS database or fingerprint master files to manually compare fingerprint impressions.
  • Perform quality control of submitted fingerprint and palm prints.
  • Fingerprint applicants
  • Work with internal (WSP) departments and external law enforcement agencies to provide requested fingerprint cards and documents for identification purposes.
  • Provide expert testimony in court proceedings.
  • Other duties and trainings as assigned.

  • Assumes responsibility for the Fingerprint Unit in the supervisor’s absence and performs operational duties. Schedules and assigns the work of technicians and clerical staff within the unit. Assists the Fingerprint Supervisor in reviewing the activities of technicians and clerical staff assigned to a shift.
  • Assists Fingerprint Supervisor with assigning and scheduling staff specific work. Reviews work of fingerprint technicians and serves as the primary trainer for new fingerprint technicians and WIN/ABIS remote site users. Performs advanced fingerprint identification and criminal records work consisting of classifying, comparing, searching and verifying fingerprints of unknown persons and crime suspects according to acceptable methods.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Knowledge of fingerprint classification methods and procedures, rules of evidence, and court testimony procedures.
