Duties

Duties
  • Monitors Read/Edit (the input station) ensuring correct fingerprint classification, core delta distance, minutiae count, clarity and position of image for each finger. Researches past due invoices from assigned vendors. This includes calling vendors and City personnel to request additional information.
  • Overrides the system as necessary to correct erroneous information or manually positions and processes prints rejected by the system classifier. Encodes or deletes minutia as necessary in order to enhance the possibility of a match. Evaluates match reports to verify that correct search parameter information was entered into the database. Views respondent images on Display/Edit station for possible identification against ten-print fingerprint cards and unsolved latent file. Resolves minor computer malfunctions that may occur and notifies appropriate co-worker/supervisor.
  • Compiles and disseminates information collected from criminal justice agencies. Maintains accounting record of users who access arrest histories. Utilizes the Louisiana Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (LLETS) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
  • Assists with other operations of the Investigations Bureau and Identification Unit.
  • Performs other duties as required.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of college credit, which must include classes in Criminal Justice or Fingerprint Science; or two (2) years of experience in classifying fingerprints or related experience in fingerprint science.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain legal access to Louisiana Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (LLETS) and National Crime Scene Information Center (NCIC), e.g., no felony convictions or outstanding warrants.
  • Knowledge of Automated Fingerprint System, computer functions, fingerprint pattern classification, and identification. Ability to operate and monitor a variety of biometric systems, including AFIS workstation and livescan.
  • Two years of experience using Microsoft Windows.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills. Must be able to prepare clear and concise reports and correspondence.
  • Hold, or be able to qualify for, such certificates or licenses as may be required by Federal, State, or City governments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Tasks are regularly performed in doors in an office environment. There is limited exposure to extreme weather conditions. May have normal exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, and noise.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
  • Requires visual perception and discrimination.
  • Requires ability to communicate orally.
  • Job must be performed with or without accommodations.
