The Crime Scene Investigations Section is a Unit that is responsible for providing forensic assistance to the Criminal Investigations Division with the collection, processing, and preservation of collected evidence from various crime scenes within Gwinnett County. The Crime Scene Specialist I position is the first level of the Crime Scene series. Incumbents are trained on the job to become Crime Scene Specialist II's.

Duties

Essential Duties
  • Training on computer systems to prepare photo line-ups and detailed reports of crime scene investigations and lab findings
  • Providing assistance in the collection and processing of evidence at crime scenes and in a laboratory environment
  • Responding and processing crime scenes
  • Training and assisting in developing and printing film and digital media
  • Performing latent print examination, footwear, and tread pattern analysis, and ballistic analysis examinations
  • Operating specialized crime scene vehicle(s)
  • Training and assisting in processing evidence for fingerprints with powders and chemicals, identifies biological substances, such as blood, and utilizes specialized equipment
  • Performing basic office duties
  • Training and assisting in fingerprinting victims and suspect(s) and maintains applicable documents and materials
Public Speaking Duties
  • This position may require testifying in court.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered
  • Valid driver's license
Other Job Requirements/Information
  • Must complete coursework required to obtain P.O.S.T. certification as a Crime Scene Technician at Department's discretion
  • This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
  • This position may require: 24 hour on call assignment, overtime, or working weekends, holidays, 10-hour, 12-hour, and rotating shifts.
  • This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
