Duties

This position performs high complexity analysis of forensic samples include HS-GC/MS, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, LC/MS/MS, and LC-TOF. Incumbents perform chemical separations of biological samples in preparation for analysis on the indicated instrumentation to include liquid/liquid, and dilute-and- shoot extractions. They also prepare butter solutions, and reagents. These positions perform analyses on samples properly accessioned into the OCME Forensic Toxicology Laboratory with direction from the Forensic Pathologist assigned to the case or in accordance with instruction from the Chief Toxicologist.

The results of these analyses are provided to the Forensic Pathologist for interpretation and utilization in the determination of cause and manner of death for their respective cases. The successful applicant must continue to develop an understanding of various and/or emerging methodology, and must also maintain and perform duties associated with with Forensic Analyst 1 and Forensic Analyst 2 classifications assigned to the OCME. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Training:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with a major in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, forensic sciences, natural sciences or related field.
Experience:
  • Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the analysis of evidentiary material.
Substitution:
  • A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in forensic science or related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
