Salary: $3,906.00 - $6,114.00 per Month

Under the general supervision of a Criminalist Manager or Criminalist Supervisor, the Crime Analyst I (CA I) is responsible for establishing and coordinating the operations of the laboratory’s evidence control system. The CA I utilizes various law enforcement database systems to perform technical and analytical duties for the Bureau of Forensic Services. Duties include: receiving and evaluating the submission of case evidence; reviewing, processing and researching associated case information; establishing and ensuring the accuracy of the chain of custody for each submitted evidence item; monitoring and maintaining the laboratory’s evidence storage areas; and processing property information.

Duties

This is the entry through first journal level in the series. Under supervision, incumbents perform a variety of duties such as searching various databases and files for criminal history and individual information; analyzing a variety of records and data to identify patterns and validate information; searching and comparing fingerprints; analyzing applications (e.g., for licensure, certification, permit); and providing assistance and support to local law enforcement and related agencies, maintaining confidentiality and ensuring the appropriate release of records.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college or university;
  • OR
  • One year of work experience obtaining, analyzing, and/or disseminating criminal justice information;
  • OR
  • Possession of a Certificate of Completion in Crime and Intelligence Analysis or comparable program.
