Night Morgue Attendant

Duties

Responsibilities
  • Assists with answering phone and door access for visitors after normal business hours.
  • Notifies an investigator by telephone of pending death calls when he/she is away from the building.
  • Accepts bodies that are brought to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for post mortem examination. Completes appropriate forms to document the receipt and location of the body.
  • Prepares pre-autopsy and post-autopsy paperwork, to include supplies needed for post-mortem examination process.
  • Inform funeral homes, or other competent authority, when a decedent is authorized to be released.
  • Assists with transport of bodies between freezer storage and autopsy suites.
  • Performs building security and temperature checks at least twice per shift. Monitors cooler and freezer temperatures during security rounds.

  • When required, the Night Morgue Attendant performs duties within the coroner’s office in which they are competent.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

At a minimum, the Night Morgue Attendant must have the following:
  • Minimum of a High School diploma
  • At least 2 years of experience working with the public
  • Proficiency in operation of basic PC functions
Work Schedule:
  • The usual shift is 3p to 7a on a rotating schedule with every third weekend Friday and Saturday. This equates to 72-80 hours per 2 week pay period.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequently stoops, kneels, balances, and crouches to perform job tasks.
  • Frequently required to lift, push, or pull burdens of over 100 lbs., including bodies.
  • Frequently stands and walks to complete duties requiring mobility.
  • Constantly involved in auditory and oral interactions, interpersonally and through devices such as telephones.
  • Constantly uses eye, hand, and finger coordination to perform job tasks.
