St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Forensic Technician for the District Twenty-Three Medical Examiner’s Office (St. Johns, Flagler and Putnam counties are covered by District 23) located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

The newly selected Forensic Technician/Investigator will assist the Medical Examiners by performing technical duties within the autopsy suite with a secondary role serving as a medicolegal death investigator during statutory mandated investigations of death. The ideal Forensic Technician/Investigator candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness.

Duties

Examples of Duties
  • Documents distinguishing characteristics of decedents.
  • Completes radiographic examinations of decedents.
  • Fingerprints decedents.
  • Assists with autopsies, including the eviscerating of decedents.
  • Cleans morgue facilities.
  • Releases decedent remains to appropriate recipients.
  • Maintains proper chain of custody.
  • Maintains evidence room.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Candidates for the Forensic Technician are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship/internship or have worked in a similar position for a minimum of one (1) year at a Medical Examiner’s Office. Associate degree or above from an accredited university or college preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain ABMDI certification within two (2) years from date of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.
