A Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) is expected to be an expert in the identification, documentation, collection, and preservation of physical evidence, as well having a working understanding of digital evidence collection processes. Conducts forensic investigations in the field and crime laboratory settings with trained methods to locate, identify, develop, preserve, and document (through photos, notes, and measurements) all manners of evidence. Prepares evidence and maintains chain of custody for future submission to crime laboratories for analysis, or for presentation in a court of law. The CSI will report directly to detective sergeants and/or the detective commander.
