Latent Print Examiner

Duties

Responsibilities:

• The Latent Print Examiner position is a qualified, highly motivated individual that is responsible for performing technical examinations of evidence through the processing of materials for latent prints, recovery of latent prints, visualizing/recording latent prints, and examining and comparing latent finger and palm impressions/prints to known exemplars in order to establish or exclude the identification of individuals.
• The Latent Print examiner will routinely utilize AFIS and other automated systems in the completion of the daily job requirements. This position will use current, state of the art equipment, analytical instrumentation, methodologies, and proven techniques and reporting methods in the field of Friction Ridge Analysis/Latent Prints Examination. Consideration will be given to both civilian and sworn law enforcement applicants.
• There is no requirement to be a sworn officer for this position. Qualified individuals will possess the minimum qualifications listed below and preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate experience or qualifications listed in preferred qualifications.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Minimum Qualifications

• Successful completion of a documented latent print examiner training program with demonstrated proficiency in latent prints casework and documented court testimony as a subject matter expert.

Educational requirements that meet one of the following sets of criteria:

• Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Forensic Science, Criminalistics, Criminal Justice, one of the natural sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) or a related science field AND two (2) years of documented work experience in the processing, recovery, visualizing/recording, analyzing, and/or comparing latent prints to include the working knowledge and operation of Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems.
OR
• Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in the fields of Forensic Science, Criminalistics, Criminal Justice, one of the natural sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) or a related science field AND three (3) years of documented work experience in the processing, recovery, visualizing/recording, analyzing, and/or comparing latent prints to include the working knowledge and operation of Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems.


• Must possess and be prepared to demonstrate professional knowledge of the principles, theories, methods and technical procedures used to process materials for latent prints, recovery of latent prints, visualizing/recording or latent prints and examining and comparing latent prints to known fingerprints in a forensic laboratory.
• Applicant must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have knowledge of general forensic laboratory case working procedures, quality control and safety principles, and general knowledge of other forensic disciplines to ensure appropriate analysis procedures are followed and evidence integrity is preserved. Must have knowledge of legal procedures and general rules of evidence in order to handle evidence appropriately and provide effective testimony.
• Valid SC driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one upon relocation for employment)
• Ability to relocate to Anderson County in Upstate SC (reasonable concessions to addresses in surrounding counties will be considered)
• The ability to successfully pass a thorough background investigation that includes criminal history, fingerprints and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently certified by the International Association for Identification (IAI) as a Certified Latent Print Examiner (CLPE) and active in the field
• Advanced post-secondary degree in a related field to the above listed educational requirements
• Additional education, documented work experience and/or certification in other forensic disciplines complementary to this position posting (Crime Scene Investigations, Footwear/Tire Tread Impressions, Blood Spatter Analysis, Photography, etc.)
• Experience working an ANAB or ASCLD/LAB Accredited environment accredited to the ISO/IEC17025 standard
• Experience utilizing FileOnQ/EvidenceOnQ – plus systems
