Property Specialist I/II (Part-Time)

Salary: $56,139.20 - $75,316.80 Annually

Please note that this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy for a part-time position. This position may require a thorough background investigation, polygraph, and a pre-employment medical exam to be completed on each final candidate, prior to appointment.
Duties
Examples of Duties- Log, classify, store, dispense, slate for destruction or release property/evidence to its rightful owner, for court presentation, destruction or auction.
- Receive, load, transport, verify, safeguard of evidence and property.
- Maintain property and evidence; secure items from theft, loss, or contamination; ensure items can be located in a timely manner.
- Prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records.
- Dispose of, or release property to courts or authorized personnel in accordance with the current laws and departmental policies and procedures.
- Order and maintain necessary supplies and department equipment.
- Respond to citizens and allied agencies inquiries regarding evidence or property in a timely manner.
- Confer with sworn personnel, and other agencies and departments on matters pertaining to property and evidence.
- Testify in court on matters pertaining to property and evidence.
- Operate computer in accordance with Department of Justice restrictions.
- Keep current with federal, state and City laws/policies relative to handling and storage of evidence/property and recommend appropriate changes when laws change.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or the equivalent is required. A degree or coursework in Criminal Justice or a related field is highly desirable.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
- One (1) year experience in customer service including customer contact is required. Any work or volunteer experience in the handling and storage of evidence and property is desirable.
- Two (2) years' experience in the handling and storage of evidence and property with a city, county or state law enforcement agency is required
