Property Specialist I/II (Part-Time)

Salary: $56,139.20 - $75,316.80 Annually

Duties

Examples of Duties
  • Log, classify, store, dispense, slate for destruction or release property/evidence to its rightful owner, for court presentation, destruction or auction.
  • Receive, load, transport, verify, safeguard of evidence and property.
  • Maintain property and evidence; secure items from theft, loss, or contamination; ensure items can be located in a timely manner.
  • Prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records.
  • Dispose of, or release property to courts or authorized personnel in accordance with the current laws and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Order and maintain necessary supplies and department equipment.
  • Respond to citizens and allied agencies inquiries regarding evidence or property in a timely manner.
  • Confer with sworn personnel, and other agencies and departments on matters pertaining to property and evidence.
  • Testify in court on matters pertaining to property and evidence.
  • Operate computer in accordance with Department of Justice restrictions.
  • Keep current with federal, state and City laws/policies relative to handling and storage of evidence/property and recommend appropriate changes when laws change.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent is required. A degree or coursework in Criminal Justice or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
Police Property Specialist I:
  • One (1) year experience in customer service including customer contact is required. Any work or volunteer experience in the handling and storage of evidence and property is desirable.
Police Property Specialist II:
  • Two (2) years' experience in the handling and storage of evidence and property with a city, county or state law enforcement agency is required
