Duties

Typical Duties
  • Responsible for the location and safekeeping of assigned property and physical evidence;
  • Maintains security of property on the work site;
  • Inventories property using computerized bar coding system;
  • May be required to conduct and/or attend hearings related to the release of property;
  • Ensures that property is released to authorized agencies and individuals;
  • Accurately records and inventories property within the detailed evidence storage filing systems;
  • Recommends disposal of certain property when legally authorized;
  • Maintains chain of evidence;
  • Answers the telephone and provides information regarding the disposition of property;
  • May be required to testify in court.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Education:
  • Educational achievement equivalent to graduation from high school.
Experience:
  • Some experience in inventory control, record keeping, and related clerical work is desirable.
Special Requirements:
  • Possession of or ability to obtain, prior to employment, a valid Class C California driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a thorough background investigation, including credit check, polygraph, medical examination, and drug screen.
