Property & Evidence Assistant

Parker Police Department, Parker, Colorado

Salary: $25.21 - $35.29 Hourly

Part Time position. Work hours are between 24-29 hours per week. Schedule may vary but a full either eight (8) hour day or ten (10) hour day is required each Friday. The remaining hours have some flexibility but are completed Monday through Thursday between 7 am and 6 pm. The expected hiring range for this position is $25.21 - $30.25, with the complete pay range being $25.21 - $35.29.

Duties

Examples of Essential Duties
  • Performs property and evidence custodial duties; maintains responsibility and security for all property and evidence in all cases.
  • Follows all applicable laws in the maintenance and disposition of property and evidence.
  • Responds to property and evidence related inquiries, answers phone calls, emails.
  • Coordinates the physical disposition of property and evidence; tracks and disposes of vehicle impounds.
  • Completes necessary documentation; identifies and reports discrepancies; reconciles differences or errors in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates the transfer of items to court, laboratories, and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of property and evidence; procures supplies.
  • Arranges for the sale or conversion of abandoned and seized property.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history.

  • Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of computers and other types of modern office equipment and software programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Ability to work effectively and exercise discretion in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background including but not limited to criminal background, physical agility, drug screen, polygraph, etc.

  • Requires frequent use of general office equipment and an automobile.
Physical Demands
  • Requires regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires occasionally reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. Requires moderate physical activity with heavy lifting, up to fifty (50) pounds. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision.
Environment
  • Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled office environment, but employees holding this position may be exposed to extreme cold or heat and wetness/humidity. The noise level is usually quiet but may range from moderate to extreme. The employee may be subject to contact with articles that require universal precautions as related to infectious disease; contact with chemicals and weapons in a variety of settings.
