Duties

Trains to Process Fingerprints for Criminal and Civil Purposes

• Learns to checks fingerprint sequences
• Learns to checks demographic information for accuracy
• Learns to verifies and validates current fingerprints against fingerprints in database
• Learns to quality control fingerprints
• Receives training to process fingerprints for criminal and civil purposes.

Bundle, Batch Scan, and Entering Demographics

• Learns to group fingerprint cards together according to procedures.
• Learns to turn physical fingerprint cards into electronic copies.
• Learns to enter demographics into MBIS.
• Receives training to process fingerprints for criminal and civil purposes.
• Determines what type of fingerprint cards are grouped together.
• Identifies appropriate demographic codes.

Interacts and Supports Internal and External Customers

• Assists public, record challenges, fingerprinting on livescan, and answers phones.
• Assists law enforcement agencies with problems/special and rare circumstances related to fingerprints.
• Receives training to assist law enforcement agencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Requires shift work, and on call status, the Biometric Identification and Records Unit is currently operating two (2) shifts from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, seven days a week.
• Mostly office, infrequent travel

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and one year of professional experience processing fingerprint records.
-OR-
• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and the successful completion of Federal Bureau of Investigation or equivalent training in fingerprint classification.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

• Requires ability to operate a personal computer and related equipment.
• Requires visually analyzing detailed fingerprint minutiae for extended periods of time, utilizing good close distance vision and attention to detail.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous State Service related to the work assigned to the position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Must be a Colorado state resident.
• Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam, a fingerprint based criminal history search and drug testing.
• Requires shift work, and may require on call status. The Biometric Identification and Records Unit is a 7:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday-Sunday operation.
