This is a full-time position with the City’s Police Department. An individual in this position is responsible for conducting complex crime scene investigations. This is a civilian position.

Duties

Examples of Work
  • Systematically survey crime scenes to collect, tag and secure scene and evidence; reconstruct crime sequence and events; assist and direct detectives; write reports; and prepare sketches, diagrams and photographs;
  • Log, maintain, store and secure all crime scene evidence and conduct periodic inventory of the evidence storage room and capacity;
  • Analyze evidence, including known and latent prints; provide fingerprinting services to citizens, police applicants and others;
  • Submit evidence to forensic laboratories as necessary and appropriate for analysis; work with medical examiners, as necessary and appropriate on autopsies;
  • Work with Medical Examiner as appropriate on autopsies;
  • Register sex offenders and update relevant information; maintain records; and communicate information with other law enforcement agencies;
  • Ensure all equipment is operating properly; order necessary repair and maintenance supplies;
  • Conduct research; prepare handouts; and provide instruction on crime scene processes and other specialty subjects;
  • Maintain training and education standards by attending classes required by the State of Texas to maintain certification;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned;
  • Subject to 24 hour recall.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Education, Experience, or Certification
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate
  • AND
  • Two year (2) experience in latent prints and crime scene investigation preferred.
Preferred Requirements
  • TAPEIT Certifications
  • International Association of Identification Certifications
  • TEEX Forensic Investigator or Criminalist Certifications
Supplemental Information
  • The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
