Latent Print Supervisor

Duties

Supervisory, technical and administrative work in the planning, directing and managing the activities and personnel of the Latent Print Identification Unit of the NOPD Crime Laboratory. Work includes overseeing the documenting, evaluating, analyzing, and preserving the custody of friction ridge evidence. Work also includes providing technical guidance and promoting and maintaining the quality assurance system of the Latent Print section; and related work as required.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

EITHER:

• A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a Natural Science (biology, chemistry, physics), Criminalistics, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or closely related field AND four (4) years* of experience performing latent print examinations. *Graduation with a Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a Natural Science (biology, chemistry, physics), Criminalistics, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

OR

• An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a Natural Science (biology, chemistry, physics), Criminalistics, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or closely related field AND six (6) years of experience performing latent print examinations.

OR

• A high school diploma or GED AND eight (8) years of experience performing latent print examinations.

OTHER

• Certification by the International Association of Identification at the time of application is preferred.
• Individuals hired into this position must obtain and maintain certification by the International Association of Identification during the probationary period. No probationary period shall last more than one year.
