Latent Print Examiner

The Latent Print Examiner will engage in a variety of activities including, but not limited to: analyzing latent prints, searching latent prints in Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems, conducting comparisons, verifying comparison conclusions, preparing reports, preparing well-organized, detailed, factual and informative exhibits for court proceedings at the request of the State Attorney’s Office. maintaining FIU case files, testifying in court, and providing technical assistance regarding latent print matters.

Duties

  • Complete assignment as directed;
  • Maintain work areas; maintain general orders;
  • Evaluate latent prints for comparative quality;
  • Determine if latent prints meet AFIS quality criteria;
  • Search AFIS latent unsolved file; conduct fingerprint comparisons;
  • Process outside requests for AFIS entries; verify fingerprint comparison;
  • Provide latent print technical assistance to crime scene technicians; prepare court exhibits;
  • AFIS/fingerprint training; maintain and update files/reports/documentation; and testify at trials, hearings, grand juries or depositions.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

  • Minimum four years related work experience, or Associates degree in related field and minimum two years related work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a science related field desirable
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop desirable
  • Certification in latent print examination through the International Association for Identification desirable.
  • Knowledge of friction ridge skin characteristics/classifications
  • Demonstrate adequate skill in the use of computer/office equipment.
  • Efficient in time management skills relating to daily work activities, tasks and special assignments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, demonstrating an awareness for human diversity to citizens and colleagues.
  • Upon hire must successfully complete the Latent Print Examiner Training Program.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office requires all employees to have either an associates degree, 60 equivalent hours from an accredited college or university or the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test. The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test measures verbal and quantitative skills. Sworn *Law Enforcement and Corrections Deputies must achieve a minimum passing score of Verbal - 267 and Quantitative - 241. Civilians must achieve a minimum passing score of Verbal - 248 and Quantitative - 241.
