Forensic Scientist Trainee

Salary: $50,836.00 - $77,321.00 Annually

Participates in a structured serology training program designed to develop knowledge, understanding and technical skill related to physiological fluid analysis, hair identification, report preparation and courtroom testimony. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a laboratory supervisor who assigns and reviews work in progress and upon completion. Work requires limited technical skills and is performed with increasing independence as experience is gained.
Duties
Employees participate in a formalized training program designed to develop competency in the analysis of chemical, biological, and physical criminal evidence. Scientists are trained to specialize in one of the following disciplines:- Drug Analysis
- Trace Analysis
- Serology
- DNA Analysis
- Participating in a structured serology training program.
- Developing knowledge, understanding, and technical skills to analyze physiological fluids, identify hair, and prepare reports for courtroom testimony.
- Performing serological testing on blood, semen and other biological fluids.
- This role requires attention to detail to maintain accurate records about evidence chain of custody and an investigative nature to thoroughly receive, examine, and preserve physical evidence.
- In addition, you will complete comprehensive competency testing, adhere to all policies and procedures, and testify as an expert witness as required.
Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics
Requirements
Minimum Training and Experience- A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, forensic science, or a closely related physical or natural science, which includes or is supplemented by 16 college credits in chemistry.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
- You must meet the PA residency requirement.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- This job title has been identified as performing critical duties. Prior to placement in this job title, the selected candidate regardless of their current job, must submit a Report of Medications for screening by the State Police Medical Officer.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
